Ricky LaPointe Obituary

Ricky “Rick” J. LaPointe, 64, of Wolfeboro, passed away January 15, 2020, after a long,, hard fought battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

He was born on August 9, 1955, in Rochester, NH, the son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Murdo) LaPointe.  Ricky grew up in New Durham, the youngest of 4 boys.   He attended local schools and was a graduate of Kingswood Regional High School.

Ricky married his best friend (and polar opposite) Brenda (Corson) LaPointe in 1975.  After a few years living in various towns throughout the state they returned to Wolfeboro to raise their family.

As a young man Ricky enjoyed work in the culinary industry and was a chef in various local establishments.  His love of this line of work led to the purchase of Pop’s Donuts in 1986.   He enjoyed many years in the donut business often hosting spirited discussions on an array of topics.

The next memorable chapter in his life is where he found his true calling when he started his career at Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation.  He truly loved being outside and took great pride in helping to maintain Wolfeboro’s numerous parks and recreational facilities. He was extremely dedicated to his role within the town, and was especially fond of the times when he came in contact with the public and could share a pleasant exchange.

His love for sports and his children lead him to volunteer with youth basketball, t-ball and Pop Warner football.  Hockey, ice skating and most recently corn hole were some of his favorite activities. Three years ago he and his son-in-law co- founded the Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation Corn Hole League. He was also an avid ice cream connoisseur, movie fanatic and loved playing games with friends and family.   Ricky’s presence was larger than life and he could always be found making someone laugh, or at the very least, roll their eyes!

He is survived by his wife Brenda; his daughter Michelle and husband Thomas Charles of Wolfeboro; daughter Samantha and husband Michael Laflamme of Hudson, NH; and son Eric and wife Natasha (Eldridge) LaPointe of Alton, NH;  grandchildren Skylar and Eastyn Charles, Eliana and Declan Laflamme and Xavier and Bailey LaPointe; brother Terry LaPointe and his wife Nicole of West Burke, VT; mother- in- law Reta Corson of Wolfeboro and sister-in-law Linda Corson and her significant other Mike Duffy of Kingston, NH; many nieces, nephews and extended family.  He is pre deceased by his mother Dorothy and father Richard LaPointe of New Durham, NH; and brothers Ronald Cathcart of Laconia, NH and Gary Cathcart of Greenville, SC; and Tigger.
