Tuftonboro, NH
Roger L. (Bill) Williams, 91, of Center Tuftonboro, NH passed away on Saturday March 20, 2021. Born in Lynn, MA on March 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Roger and Bernice (Lawrence) Williams.
Almost a lifelong resident of Center Tuftonboro, Roger spent the earliest years of his life in Oquossuc, ME. His family returned to Tuftonboro where he attended school and graduated from Brewster Academy in ‘48. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction for nearly thirty years before “retiring” to work on the land and in the woods he loved. Roger was involved in Tuftonboro throughout his life, acting as selectman, town treasurer and the caretaker of the town’s many cemeteries. He enjoyed keeping the town’s history alive.
Roger was a pillar of his community. He was always there to offer a helping hand, perhaps before you knew you needed it. He was genuinely concerned for the well-being of everyone around him. Always one to do his best, Roger gave his all in everything he did. This was apparent in his time spent in the Marine Corp, with the Tuftonboro Volunteer Fire Department, the Farm Bureau and the Masons of Morning Star Lodge to name a few of the activities important to him. An active member of the Melvin Village Community Church, Roger rarely missed a Sunday and sat proudly in the family pew – the Caverly pew – each week.
Roger was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, great-grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services: Visitation and viewing will be Saturday March 27 from 3 – 5pm at Lord Funeral Home, 23 Club Lane, Wolfeboro NH 03894.
Graveside and burial services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday May 1 at 1:00pm at the Melvin Community Church. Family and friends are invited to attend.
