Sylvia Ham, 87, of Tuftonboro, NH, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025. Sylvia was born on March 27, 1937, in Laconia, NH, the middle daughter to Leroy and Florence Ham of Tuftonboro. Sylvia attended Tuftonboro Grammar School and Brewster Academy. At eighteen she started her career as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Company in Durham. She later worked for offices in Wolfeboro and Laconia with her career lasting over 30 years. After retiring Sylvia worked part-time at Value Land in Ossipee and Pier 19 in Tuftonboro.
Sylvia was independent, hardworking, and loved to have fun. She was quick-witted, liked a good joke and with her subtle humor was the life of any get together. Sylvia loved her family and friends. She was affectionately known as Aunt Sudie. She was a surrogate mom to her nephews, nieces, and great nieces and nephews, helping take care of them as they grew up, and in later years always remembering them by baking her infamous chocolate chip cookies and never missing a birthday.
She is survived by her sister Rhoda (Ham) Davis of Concord, NH, and her many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Richard Ham of Acton, Maine, and her sister Nancy Roberge of Wolfeboro. Sylvia led a full life. She will be missed by her family and friends.
At Sylvia’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral. There will be a private burial service this spring in the Town House Cemetery on Middle Road in Center Tuftonboro, NH.
To honor Sylvia’s spirit and love of children, donations in her memory can be made to the children's section of your local library.
