THOMAS HAMLIN Obituary

Thomas Norman Hamlin was born June 1, 1950 in Elkhart, Indiana to Helen Laughlin Thompson and Robert Hamlin, but was raised by his mother and step father William Thompson. He died October 3, 2023 at his residence at Mountainview Community Center in Ossipee, New Hampshire.  He was raised in a loving home and grew up riding his motorcycle and waterskiing with his family. In high school he was a gymnast who placed in the top ten in the state of Indiana.

As a young adult he joined the air force and traveled around the world going to places like New Zealand and Antarctica, but when his brother, Ronny, died young he began making poor choices that landed him in The New Hampshire State Prison. While in prison he dedicated his life to his faith in Jesus. Upon release he married Theresa (Bill) Hamlin and they raised eight children together.

Tom and Theresa were house parents for a children’s home for a short time, but his lifelong career was in carpentry. He created many works of art that will forever be cherished. The family moved between states, and finally settled into the Lakes Region, New Hampshire.

Tom loved his family deeply and was always a cheerleader for his children and grandchildren. His exuberant personality brought many smiles and made him a friend to everyone he met. He was known to be very fun and friendly.  He had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed singing karaoke with friends or his children.

Tom was predeceased by his beloved son, Josiah Hamlin, his parents and three of his siblings, Ronald Hamlin, Chuck Hamlin, and Colleen Willits. Tom is survived by his sister, Sandy Collins of Elkhart, IN, seven of his children Sarah Dick, Amy Hartley, Joy Gagnon, Ronald Hamlin, Anna Hamlin, Rachel Lawrence, Leah Matros, 17 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 13 at 3:30 PM at First Congregational Church of Ossipee.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to White Horse Recovery Center, in memory of his son Josiah.
