Timothy Brand Obituary

Timothy James Brand, 80, from Alton, NH died Sunday, April 23 at Concord Hospital following a brief illness.

Tim was born May 27, 1942 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  He was a son of the late Paul and Arlene Brand.  He was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School in 1960.  Tim went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Sciences from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Astronautics and Aeronautics from Stanford University.

On November 15, 1963 Tim married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Dommisse.  They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in November of this year.  Tim is survived by his wife Ellen; three children, Kathy Brand Busko (Jerry), Thomas Brand (Jennifer), and Amy Brand Kulcsar (John); and nine grandchildren, Derek Busko, Holly Busko, Ryan Busko, Owen Busko, Amanda Brand, Jessica Brand, Ashley Kulcsar, Scott Kulcsar, and Alexis Kulcsar; and one brother, Peter Brand (Ellie).  He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Kelley Anne, a sister Alice Brand and a brother Charles Brand.

After graduating from Stanford, Tim was employed at AC Spark Plug in Milwaukee, WI.  After six months he had an offer from MIT in Cambridge, MA to work on the Apollo Program at Draper Laboratory.  He was employed there for almost 40 years, involved in both Apollo and Space Shuttle programs, along with many other exciting projects.  Tim retired in June, 2005 and then moved to his new home on Half Moon Lake, which he had spent 6 years carefully planning and designing.

Tim enjoyed various woodworking projects, and making many requested items for his family was a large part of his life.  Other interests included traveling, walking, golfing, kayaking and his most recent interest, building and then sailing his remote controlled sailboat, with the Back Bay Sailors in Wolfeboro.

Much of Tim’s focus in his retirement years was on his family and enjoying his nine grandchildren whom he dearly loved.  He always said nothing made him happier than being with them.

A celebration of life is being planned for friends and family.  Donations in Tim’s name can be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
