Virginia, Ginny, grew up in Water Village, Ossipee, NH, the daughter of Hazel and Ralph Haney. Her education started in a one-room schoolhouse, though she later attended Ossipee High School and graduated from MacIntosh College in Dover, NH. She met Roger Moody, and they married in 1953, staying together for 64 years until Roger passed in 2017. They had two children, Blair and Dawn, and moved to Wolfeboro in 1957. She remained in Wolfeboro until she passed at home on May 6.
Ginny volunteered for many organizations, including as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Brownies leader, and then as head of the Wolfeboro VNA for twelve years. Ginny worked over 25 years for the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce- we called her “Miss Information”.
She was a fun, caring person, who was always willing to listen, and happy to go on spontaneous adventures. She was a friend to many during her well-lived 98 years. Ginny willingly gave her time, found the silver lining in most things, and shared her positive attitude with everyone.
She had an excellent memory and quick wit right up till the end, and shared her stories of everything from escapades in a Model A (and even earlier cars) to watching a zeppelin fly overhead. One memory was when 7 of her group of 8 cub scouts were intent on a project in the basement, and she went upstairs to look for her missing scout only to find him dancing on top of her dining room table.
Ginny was an avid skier and it was an important part of her life. When she skied, people would stop and admire her unique and graceful style. She took up downhill ski racing; one year she won the regional NASTAR Race and was sent to compete in Colorado. She raced right up till she was 87. Ginny even taught her husband and children to ski, then continued with her grandsons. She and her great friend Ginny Jackson went twice to Switzerland to ski. The two Ginny's also traveled to Ecuador to visit Dawn.
While in her 50’s, Ginny learned how to ride a motorcycle (a 1981 Yamaha SR250). She passed her bike to Dawn and then to grandson, Tyler.
During her life she saw many inventions- automobiles, airplanes, telephones, appliances, frozen foods, TV, and computers- and didn’t have electricity in her family home until she was in college. Ginny lived through the Depression, World War ll, the moon landing, and rock and roll, which she liked but didn’t readily admit.
She will be remembered as the best Mom, a wonderful Grandmother, and a dear friend to many, as well as a positive role model.
Left behind are Blair Moody, Dawn (Lane) Evans, Jacob (Lauren) Evans, and Tyler (Elaina) Evans, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Water Village Church, 370 Water Village Road, Ossipee, NH at 11:00 with lunch to follow. Bring your stories as there are many about this wonderful lady and her life well lived.
