Willis J. Moore, 81, of Wolfeboro, NH, passed away on Friday March 12, 2021 with his family by his side.
He was born on February 3, 1940 in Rochester, NH, the son of the late Leonel and Mary Louise (Berry) Moore. He attended Spaulding High School and UNH. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, serving in Korea and Rickenbacker AFB, Columbus, Ohio earning an honorable discharge in 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary L. (Deibel) Moore, son William J. Moore and his wife Karen, of Buxton, Maine; daughter Laura L. Moore, of Tuftonboro, NH, and son Timothy M. Moore and his wife Marissa, of Wolfeboro, NH. He had four beloved grandchildren, Julie, Jack, Jenna and Jones. Willis is also survived by his sister, Mary Conroy and her husband Roger, of Rochester, NH and his sister Jean Younes of Queens, New York.
A builder by trade, Willis worked with his father and brother in their family construction business in Rochester, until starting his own business in Wolfeboro. Willis started the Village Stripper furniture and boat restoration in the 70’s, then got back into the housing boom with Pine Hill Construction in the 80’s and 90’s. During this time, he fulfilled his passion for service by working part time as an Emergency Medical Technician, Police Officer, and Ambulance Driver in Wolfeboro. Eventually he worked on restoring antique wooden boats before his retirement.
He grew up skiing NH mountains, even being invited to try out for the US alpine ski team, instead choosing to join the Air Force. He had a passion for water skiing, and performed with the Lovell Lake Water ski club in the 1970’s. An avid outdoorsman, Willis loved fishing and hunting.
A memorial service will be held Saturday March 20, 2021 at St. Katharine Drexel Church in Alton at 11:00 am, burial with military honors at Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
