Linnie Watson Giles

Linnie (Watson) Giles, 98, of Freedom Village passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 30, 2017 while living at her grandson’s home on Berry Bay.

Linnie was a native and life-long resident of Freedom.  She was born at the family home on Watson Hill on September 29, 1918 the daughter of the late Melvin and Blanche (Eastman) Watson.

She was a long member of the First Christian Church of Freedom and a member of the Ladies’ Guild and Community Club as well as a member of the Calvin Topliff Chapter #18, Order of the Eastern Star.

 Linnie was a graduate of Plymouth Teacher’s College in 1941.  She taught for over 30 years spending the last 17 years at Madison Elementary.  She retired from teaching in 1975.  She loved being with her family and working in her garden.

In February 2016, Linnie became the holder of the Boston Post Cane for Freedom.  She was the third person in her family to be a Boston Post Cane holder.

She was the widow of the late Lyle Giles.  She is survived by a son Edwin H. Giles, and his wife Sharon of Silver Lake, NH, a grandson Todd Giles and his wife, Elaine of Freedom, NH, a great grandson Abram Giles, Freedom, NH, and a sister Velma Hormell and her husband Glenn, Freedom, NH. A niece Beverly and Glenn Mason of Freedom, two nephews; Alan and Rachel Fall of Freedom and Melvin Fall of Tamworth.  Six grand nieces and nephews and seven great grand nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 2:00PM at the First Christian Church of Freedom.  Burial will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom at a later date.
