My sincere condolences to Walter's family. He was a very special man. Always with a smile and a positive word. If he saw you drive up at the post office, he was there at the window with your mail. One of my fondest memories of him was one day when he handed me my mail as I walked in , I thanked him and told him "Walter, you're so efficient!" , he replied, "nope, haven't been fishin' yet". Even though he was deaf, he read lips well, and always had a hearty infectious laugh that just made your day better every time. He and Florence always had wonderful Halloween treats for all the "trick or treaters." , even leaving them out for the kids if they weren't home. He will be greatly missed.

The light of a great icon in the village of Chocorua has gone out but the glow from his light will remain in the hearts of all that knew him. I will always have fond memories of my daily interaction with Walt at the post office when I was just a small boy and that was over half a century ago...one of the kindest men I've ever known. My deepest sympathies to Sally and Mary.

Walter was my mother's first friend when she entered Mineral Springs. They always stopped in the hall to shake hands and have a little chat. Whenever I visited my mom i passed by Walter and stopped to say hello and shake his hand too. I was always greeted with that great big smile. I will miss seeing him. The last time I was there in April he was zipping around the hallway having a great time teasing the staff. He passed by my mother's room and gave her a big wave. Everyone was laughing! Thank you for sharing your Dad with us.

Sally, Merry and familes,
Walter was the best!! His smile, his laugter, his genuineness and kindness touched my heart. His days at the post office will always be remembered with great fondness.
He was a amazing person and he gave to much to his country and everyone. He will be missed but not forgotten. So much gratitude to him and all his brothers for their service to their county. May all the wonderful memories you had with him help to ease your loss. With deepest sympathy, love and blessings,
Beverly
